(By Tsai Zong-Heng, Military News Agency, March 26, 2014, TAIPEI) Mr. Yan Min, Minister of Defense, today summoned the cadets who were elected for 2014 CYC Youth Medal and National Outstanding Collegians. He approved the remarkable performance of cadets to fight for honor of the military and individual, but also inspired them to keep high patriotism and to show talent in the military service when distributed to forces after graduation.

Minister Yan this morning was accompanied by General Gao Guang-Qi, Chief of Staff, and Lieutenant General Wang Min-Wo, Bureau Chief of Political Warfare, summoned the National Defense College students Chang Shu-Rui awarded Youth Medal and other national outstanding collegians to praise their remarkable performance in various aspect of virtue, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic, and presented them a gift for encouragement.

Minister Yan said that there was a total of ten cadets awarded 2014 Youth Medal and National Outstanding Collegians before the Youth Eve. The outcome was fruitful which showed the commitment of military put into military education. Chang Shu-Rui awarded “Peace” Youth Medal among 312 national candidates through rigorous process of preliminary exam, reexamine and final exam to the fore. This showed that his performance in virtue, intellectual and personal achievement were outstanding which get elected at all levels of accreditation.

Minister Yan encouraged awarded students to be the model for underclassmen for earning good grades in school, enriching their learning ability, developing good character and forging a strong physique. Continuing the honorable role model to grow sophisticated in later distribution to forces after graduation and contributing to the country and the military forces.

Minister Yan stressed the importance of "Military Nationalized" and "Administrative Neutrality", requested the students not to be involved in any political activities either on working hour, or public and private occasions.

Minister Yan further said that the Youth Day is a holiday attributed to youths nationwide. It has the significance meaning of “Encouraging the Youth for the Country” also in line with the purpose of the service. The winning students will soon be invited to the Office of the President for receiving acceptance and encouragement from the President. In all aspects showed that the youth is important to the Government. The government also approved and supported the effectiveness of the Youth Day activities and expected all together to build a more hopeful, more creative, also more value and meaningful future.
