Defense MinisterYen Ming today at the Legislative Yuan Diplomatic and Defense Committee said, Military will base on the demand of the overall arm building project to raise requirements in accordance with the U.S. Congress recently passed the arms sales of 4 Perry Class Frigates to Taiwan.Now, aiming for Hot Ship transferring method as required in the future combat capability.The first phase is expected to purchase two ships.This project will not welcome all comers.

U.S. Congress approved the arms sales based on the maximum amount authorized, noted by Minister Yen.Military will consider carefully on the combat demand.Now, it only arranged purchasing funds for two warships to substitute for combat capability gap after JiYeng Class warship decommissioning.

As for legislators question about the policy of “Submarine Made in Taiwan”, Minister stressed that neither country made or arms sales, military has demand for submarine.The United States agreed with the submarines made by ourselves and is willing to assist in building together.

While Legislative Yuan Diplomatic and Defense Committee reviewed “National Defense Mobilization Readiness Act Article 14, Article 25 and Article 26 Amendment” in the morning, Defense Minister has made the above statement.
